Well known for his idiosyncratic taste in antique furniture - a sort of English country house grandeur seen through a quirky Eighteenth century connoisseur’s eye - Christopher Hodsoll worked as an antique dealer in London for many years with the great Geoffrey Bennison. He has continued Bennison’s tradition of boldly luxurious, but slightly faded, aristocratic taste but has added his own enthusiasms, such as his love of architectural antique furniture.
Like his late mentor, Hodsoll himself is increasingly turning his hand from simply being an antique dealer to decorating, having recently completed a number of overseas commissions and a substantial London townhouse. In partnership with Lulu Lytle, Hodsoll has formed a design company called Soane, producing perfectly-scaled furniture, lighting and accessories with a classical inspiration, all made to a high quality in the United Kingdom.
